We began by discussing the state of LCs at KCC – some of the challenges we’ve been facing and some of the solutions we have been proposing. We also discussed how LCs might actually mitigate some of the student issues arising from remote classes, although the challenges of remote LCs were also discussed.
Some of the ideas we explored were:
- Bringing back KCCs Interactive Workbook for Designing, Building, and Sustaining Learning Communities Appendix
- Seeing of we can send another team to Evergreen with LC leads, new administrators, and new linking faculty
- What we mean when we say “community” as opposed to group or team Gabrielle mentioned a book called Studies in Psychology by A. V. Petrovsky. It addresses the idea of the collective/community and distinguishes it from more fragmented groups, calling emotional participation a key ingredient for community participation. We also brought up the idea of trust, which we said seems essential for community building.
- We also talked about establishing program learning outcomes…we had these in the past, but in any case it would be good to establish new ones.
