Notes for May 24th

Well, we started with questions…and ended with questions!

Kieren and I had sent the following to get the conversation started….
  • Should integration be the primary goal of LC work?
  • What does integration among courses look like in a LC?
  • How do we distinguish integrative learning from integrative thinking? Should we?
  • How do we know integrative learning is taking place?
  • How can we strengthen integration?

But before we could really get into any of those, the BIG question came up: What IS integration?!

This took us down the rabbit hole….and is pretty much where we stayed!

But lots of interesting points where made in that rabbit hole…and the questions we were left with included:
  1. How does integrative learning different from learning? Is all learning innately integrative?
  2. Is integration the right word? Is what we are trying to get at really about relationships (among ideas, and people)? Connections?
  3. Assuming integration in LCs is more than interdisciplinarity, how broad and deep of a concept is it? Are community and development involved?

To be continued…..next semester! 😊
